Policy Statement

The International Journal of Economic and Business Insight (IJEBSI) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record. Although we undertake rigorous peer-review processes to ensure the quality and accuracy of published articles, there may be exceptional circumstances where a published article needs to be withdrawn, corrected, or retracted. Such actions are taken with the utmost seriousness and in accordance with industry best practices to ensure that the scientific record remains trustworthy. Corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies, when necessary, are carried out to preserve the confidence of researchers, librarians, and readers in our published work.

Article Retraction

Articles may be retracted for the following reasons:

  • Major Scientific Errors: If an article contains significant scientific errors that invalidate its conclusions, such as fabricated data or honest miscalculations.
  • Redundant Publication: If the findings have already been published elsewhere without proper citation, permissions, or justification.
  • Ethical Issues: If the article involves plagiarism or unethical authorship practices, including failure to credit others' ideas or misuse of confidential information.

Retraction Process:

  1. An article is flagged for retraction by an editor or reviewer.
  2. The editor follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines to investigate the matter, including seeking a response from the author.
  3. The findings are reviewed by the journal’s Ethics Advisory Board to ensure consistency with best practices.
  4. The decision is communicated to the author and, if applicable, to relevant institutions or bodies.
  5. A retraction notice is published online and in the next journal issue.

Note: Authors cannot unilaterally retract their article after publication, even if they hold the copyright. The integrity of the academic record is paramount, and all retraction decisions follow COPE guidelines.

Article Withdrawal

Authors are strongly discouraged from withdrawing manuscripts after submission due to the extensive resources invested by the journal's editors and reviewers. However, in exceptional cases, article withdrawal is allowed under the following conditions:

  • Before Acceptance: If the author requests to withdraw a manuscript during the peer-review process, a penalty of $100 USD per manuscript will be applied.
  • After Acceptance: If the manuscript is withdrawn after acceptance, the penalty increases to $150 USD per manuscript.
  • Post-Publication: If an article is withdrawn after publication due to serious errors, duplication, or ethical violations, the content will be replaced with a notice of withdrawal. In such cases, a penalty of $200 USD per manuscript will be imposed.

If the author does not comply with the withdrawal penalties, they and their institution will be blacklisted from publishing in IJEBSI for three years.

Authors must submit an official request, signed by the corresponding author and an authorized institution representative, to the Principal Editor to withdraw an article.

Article Correction

Corrections may be issued in cases where:

  • Minor Errors: If a portion of the article contains errors that do not invalidate the findings but may mislead readers (e.g., incorrect data due to an honest mistake).
  • Authorship Errors: If there are errors in the author or contributor list, such as omitting deserving authors or including those who do not meet authorship criteria.

Types of Corrections:

  1. Publisher Correction (Erratum): Issued to correct errors made by the journal or publisher that impact the article's integrity or authors' reputation.
  2. Author Correction (Corrigendum): Issued to correct errors made by the authors that affect the scientific integrity of the article.
  3. Addendum: Issued when authors provide additional clarifications, updates, or expansions to the original work.

The decision to issue a correction is made by the journal editors, who may consult with reviewers or Editorial Board members.

Article Removal

In rare circumstances, an article may need to be removed entirely from the journal’s platform. This action is only taken when:

  • The article is defamatory, violates legal rights, or has a court order demanding removal.
  • The content poses a serious health risk if acted upon.

In such cases, the article metadata will be retained, but the content will be replaced with a notice indicating its removal for legal or ethical reasons.

Article Replacement

In cases where an article poses a serious health risk, the authors may retract the original paper and publish a corrected version. The retraction notice will include a link to the revised article along with a detailed history of the changes.
